DC Srinagar, SSP review enforcement, rehabilitation measures at NCORD meet

SRINAGAR JANUARY 20:- A meeting of District Level Committee on Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was convened on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo here at the Meeting Hall of the DC Office to review the ongoing enforcement actions and preventive initiatives undertaken by various departments in the district to combat the drug menace and strengthen deterrence measures against drug peddlers.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Sandeep Chakravarthy was also present in the meeting.

During the meeting, as per an official statement, a comprehensive review with regard to the districts performance for the year 2025 was held with a focus on identifying gaps and challenges in combating drug abuse, illicit trafficking, identification of drug hotspots, vulnerable areas and transit routes.

The meeting also took  assessment of drugs related financial investigations and asset forfeiture, prevention of diversion of pharmaceutical drugs, strengthening inter-agency coordination and intelligence sharing, and enhanced scrutiny of parcels and consignments.

The role of the Social Welfare, School education and Colleges were emphasized particularly with regard to IEC activities. While role of health department was also deliberated upon and status of de-addiction centres, availability of counselling facilities, and rehabilitation programmes for affected individuals.

The NCORD Committee also emphasized the active involvement of educational institutions and religious leaders in awareness generation and community-level interventions.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for a coordinated and sustained approach involving all stakeholder departments. He emphasized that enforcement actions must be complemented with strong preventive measures, awareness campaigns, and rehabilitation support to effectively address the drug problem. The DC called for enhanced IEC activities and community participation to make Srinagar drug-free.

While speaking on the occasion, the SSP Srinagar highlighted the role of intelligence-driven policing and inter-agency coordination in dismantling drug networks. He emphasized strict action against drug peddlers through financial investigations, asset forfeiture and monitoring of transit routes, while ensuring enhanced scrutiny of parcels and consignments.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Aadil Fareed; Superintendent of Police, Umar Shah; SDM West Irfan Bahadur; SDM EAST, Zubair Ahmad;  District Social Welfare Officer, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad; ARTO, Muazam Ali and Officers of Excise, Drug Control Organization, DYS&S, Heads of ATFs DY SP ANTF, President/ Chairman Private Coaching Centers Association, Srinagar and other concerned.
