Baramulla, Jan 22: Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa Thursday said that comprehensive arrangements are in place to ensure the smooth conduct of Republic Day celebrations, despite an adverse weather alert for the region issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Sherpa said that the main event at Showket Ali Stadium will feature the Army’s weapon display for the first time, adding a special patriotic fervour to the celebrations.

He said that all the necessary arrangements have been made to ensure smooth Republic Day functions, adding that reviews are being conducted continuously at district and sub-divisional levels.

The DC acknowledged the challenges posed by the forecasted rains and snowfall and affirmed that the administration has mobilized all necessary teams to ensure the Republic Day celebrations proceed without disruption.

On the security front, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted robust measures, noting that the police is already geared up and security has been beefed up with daily frisking exercises and other necessary actions.

Inviting widespread public participation, the DC clarified there is no need for any passes to visit venues and urged residents to join in large numbers. “With the coordinated efforts of all the departments, we assure smooth celebrations,” he said.

On IMD’s weather advisory, Baramulla DC cautioned against unnecessary travel during snowfall.

He said that emergency response centres are fully functional. “Police in Baramulla and Sopore have also issued helpline numbers for public assistance.”

He added that the administration remains on high alert, prioritizing road clearance across over 4,000 Kilometers, alongside uninterrupted essential services like power and water supply—(KNO)
