Div Com, DC Srinagar mark Voters Day, felicitate BLOs

Srinagar, Jan 25:  On the occasion of 16th National Voters Day celebrations, a grand function was organized by the District Election Office, Srinagar here at Government College of Education, M A Road  to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India, established on 25th January 1950.

 

The function was presided over by the Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Anshul Garg, while Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo who is also the District Election Officer attended the function as Guest of Honour.

 

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz; Nodal Principal Colleges, Seema Naaz; Electoral Registration Officers, Zubair Ahmad & Umer Gulzar; Election Nodal Officers, Officials of District Election Office, Srinagar BLOs, newly registered voters and other concerned Officials were present on the occasion.

 

Speaking on the occasion,  Divisional Commissioner Kashmir highlighted the significance of National Voters Day in creating awareness and encouraging young citizens who have attained the age of 18 to enrol in the electoral rolls and actively participate in the democratic process. He lauded the efforts of the election machinery and stakeholders for sensitising citizens, especially youth, to become active participants in strengthening democracy.

 

The Div Com also commended the District Election Office Srinagar for the successful conduct of the 2024 Lok Sabha and J&K Assembly Elections, which witnessed a substantial increase in voter turnout.

 

DC/DEO Srinagar in his welcome address said that the National voters Day serves as a reminder to all the eligible voters of their duty to participate in the electoral process and responsibilities to participate in the electoral process, to strengthen the democratic setup. He expressed appreciation for the dedication of BLOs, Electoral Registration Officers, the District Election Office and the Education Department in keeping the electoral process  vibrant and dynamic in the district.

 

He informed that the District Election Office is actively expanding electoral literacy through awareness programmes in schools, colleges, and prominent public places across the district.

 

During the programme, a message from the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Shri Gyanesh Kumar, was telecast virtually.

 

On the occasion, participants were administered a pledge regarding National Voters Day by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir.

 

Later, the Divisional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner distributed Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) to newly enrolled voters. They also felicitated BLOs of Srinagar district for their dedicated services in voter registration.

Notably, the Election Commission of India has chosen the theme “My India, My Vote – Indian Citizen at the Heart of Indian Democracy” for this year’s National Voters’ Day.
