Kangan, Jan 26: Nearly 67 crore rupees have been spent on development projects in Kangan Assembly Constituency over the past year under the leadership of Mian Mehar Ali, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA).

The initiatives cover irrigation, drinking water, roads, healthcare, education, sports, and tourism, aimed at improving infrastructure and public service delivery across the constituency.

Significant funds were allocated to agriculture and rural livelihoods, including 6.50 crore for irrigation schemes such as the Lift Irrigation project at Chountiwaliwar and the Waniarm project.

Drinking water infrastructure received attention through the PHE pipeline networks, the restoration of existing schemes, and a new water line project worth ₹ 1.60 crore, alongside the installation of seven hand pumps at water-scarce locations, official documents reveal.

Road connectivity was strengthened with over 35.90 crore sanctioned under R&B, CNT, PMGSY, NABARD, and CDF for macadamization, upgradation, and construction works.

Major projects include the Sumbal–Balla road, Sumbal bridge, Shahbaz Nallah road, Dar Mohalla Chantan road, and several inner link roads across Kangan, Akhal, Chattergul, Arhama, Burnabugh–Nizampora–Baripoa, and Haripura–Boniza. Large PMGSY projects such as Gund 21 road (Rs 7 crore), Sumbal–Surfraw–Neilpati (Rs 4.18 crore), Baldaji–Surfraw (Rs 5.30 crore), and Anderwan–Dursuma (Rs 6.29 crore) were also sanctioned.

Healthcare services saw improvements with Rs 4.75 crore sanctioned for PHC Kullan, anaesthesia facilities at SDH Kangan, a dialysis unit, AI-enabled X-ray facilities, and telemedicine services at PHCs Sonamarg and Wangath. Doctor strength was increased at SDH Kangan.

Funds were also directed toward education, youth, and sports, including synthetic volleyball courts (Rs 75 lakh), the construction of a government girls’ higher secondary school, a high school at Hayan, and a ZEO office at Kijpora.

Tourism infrastructure was boosted with the reconstruction of Sonamarg market, the development of treks, and the improvement of the Kangan–Naranag road (1.39 crore). Other projects include a footbridge at Gund (Rs 22 lakh), a fire station at Sonamarg, completion of Akhal bridge, and construction of a PDD work station at Kangan.

Officials said some projects are under execution—(KNO)
