Srinagar, Feb 11: The Government of India on Wednesday informed the Lok Sabha that 10,809 route kilometres of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) have been laid in Jammu and Kashmir during the last three financial years (2022–25).
In a written reply, Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M Scindia said that the total OFC network in J&K has reached 44,479 route kilometres as of December 31, 2025.
The government also said that the number of 4G/5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) in the Union Territory has increased from 25,113 in March 2022 to 37,180 by December 2025, indicating significant improvement in telecom infrastructure.
The Centre said that expansion of optical fibre connectivity under BharatNet and telecom network rollout has helped improve broadband speed, network reliability and digital access, enabling wider use of e-governance, online education, telemedicine and digital payment services.
The government further informed that improved connectivity has enhanced access to digital services in rural and remote areas through Common Service Centres and other digital platforms—(KNO)
