Srinagar, FEBRUARY 16: A three day skill development training programme titled “Hands-on Training in Biomedical Research and Drug Discovery (Biological Assays and Mice Experiments)” commenced Monday at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Srinagar Branch.

The programme, as per PIB statement, is being conducted under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiatives with the objective of imparting practical, industry relevant skills to young researchers, students, and professionals in the rapidly evolving domains of biomedical research and drug discovery.

In his virtual inaugural address, Dr Zabeer Ahmed, Director, CSIR-IIIM, shared insights into the future prospects of biomedical research and drug discovery. He emphasised the growing importance of robust biological evaluation platforms in translating basic research into viable therapeutic candidates.

Dr Fayaz Malik, Chief Scientist, CSIR-IIIM and Organiser of the training programme, presented a detailed overview of the training module. He informed that the programme focuses on hands-on exposure to in vitro biological assays, including cell viability assays, enzyme-based screening, and mechanism-driven bioassays relevant to drug discovery.

Addressing the participants, Dr Muzamil Ahmad, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IIIM, highlighted the institute’s mandate and contributions in the field of integrative medicine and drug discovery. He elaborated on CSIR-IIIM’s role in advancing natural product research, preclinical validation, and development of drug candidates for various therapeutic indications.

The CSIR Integrated Skill Initiatives are being conducted under the patronage of Er. Abdul Rahim, Head, IIIM Srinagar Branch and Head, RMBD & IST Division, and are coordinated by Dr. Nasir ul Rasheed, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer (Skill Development).

Scientists, technical staff, administrative officers, and research scholars were present during the inauguration. Around 20 participants from different parts of the country are taking part in the training programme.
