KULGAM, FEBRUARY 17: In compliance with the directions of the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority, an interaction-cum-awareness programme was organized by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kulgam on the Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) Scheme, 2022, here at the Rest House, Chawalgam, Kulgam.

The objective, as per an official statement, of the programme was to create awareness among investigating officers (IOs) of District Police Kulgam and other stakeholders about the provisions, objectives, and functioning of the Legal Aid Defence Counsel Scheme, which aims to provide competent and effective legal representation to eligible accused persons.

During the session, resource persons from LADC’s Kulgam highlighted the importance of the scheme in ensuring fair trials and timely legal assistance. They also discussed the role and responsibilities of investigating officers in facilitating the legal aid process and coordinating with defence counsels appointed under the scheme.

Various investigating officers from different police units participated in the programme and interacted with the resource persons, seeking clarifications on procedural aspects of the scheme.

The participants appreciated the initiative and emphasized the need for such awareness programmes to strengthen coordination between legal aid institutions and law enforcement agencies.
