Gulmarg, Feb 24: Kajal Kumari Rai of Meghalaya delivered a dominant performance at the Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) in Gulmarg, clinching double gold in Nordic skiing and emerging as one of the standout athletes of the tournament.

Athlete from Shillong, Meghalaya, Rai displayed consistency and endurance across consecutive days of competition. On inaugral day, she clinched gold in the Women’s Nordic 15 km sprint event, followed it with another commanding performance on Tuesday, securing gold in the Women’s Nordic 10 km race to complete an impressive golden double.

Speaking after her victory, Rai, representing the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), said her success was the outcome of sustained hard work and commitment. “Efforts and dedication bring results,” she said, expressing happiness over her performance.

The victory, however, carried deep emotional significance for the skier, who dedicated both gold medals to her father, who passed away last year in the same month. Rai said her father’s encouragement played a crucial role in shaping her journey in sports and motivating her to pursue excellence.

Rai also praised Gulmarg as an exceptional venue for winter sports, stating that the destination has no comparison in terms of natural beauty and sporting potential. She appreciated the hospitality of local residents, describing them as helpful and cooperative throughout the competition.

The Khelo India Winter Games 2026 in Gulmarg continue to witness strong participation from athletes representing various states and institutions—(KNO)
