Srinagar, Feb 25: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) has welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval for the major expansion of the Civil Enclave at Srinagar International Airport, terming it a landmark decision for the economic development of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement, KCC&I President Javid Ahmad Tenga said that the Chamber had taken up the issue of expansion of Srinagar Airport at both the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir levels, noting that the project would significantly strengthen tourism, trade and export infrastructure in the Valley. He added that the approval addresses a key requirement for Kashmir’s economy, as improved airport infrastructure will boost tourism, provide exporters with better cargo handling and warehousing facilities, and ensure a smoother and more comfortable travel experience for passengers.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the development of the Civil Enclave at Srinagar International Airport at an estimated cost of ₹1,677 crore.

The project is expected to enhance passenger handling capacity, modernise aviation infrastructure and significantly improve air connectivity to and from the Valley.

KCC&I expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the project and for the continued focus on infrastructure-led growth in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chamber noted that the expansion will lead to improved terminal facilities, reduced congestion, and enhanced safety and convenience, offering passengers a better overall travel experience. It will also strengthen air cargo and logistics capabilities in the region.

The KCC&I President further said that the project will boost investor confidence, generate employment opportunities and provide a major impetus to economic activity in the region. He expressed hope that the project would be implemented in a time-bound manner with adequate provisions for cargo facilities, cold storage and warehousing.

The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry reiterated its commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure that the benefits of this major infrastructure upgrade translate into sustainable economic growth and improved public services for the people of Jammu and Kashmir—(KNO)
