SRINAGAR, MARCH 25: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Sartaj Ahmad Shah, Wednesday inaugurated the fifth phase of the Vegetable Seedling Distribution Drive at the Kitchen Garden Premises, Lalmandi, Srinagar.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Agriculture Kashmir appreciated the dedicated efforts of the officers and officials of the Kitchen Garden and Hi-Tech Poly House sections for ensuring the availability of quality vegetable seedlings to the farming community round the year. He stated that the department has been largely successful in achieving this objective and affirmed that this endeavour will continue with full momentum until all set targets are met. 8.5 lakh seedlings are expected to be distributed on 5th cycle across division.
Highlighting the immense potential and importance of vegetable cultivation in the Kashmir region, Sartaj Ahmad Shah urged educated youth to come forward and adopt vegetable cultivation as a viable and promising career option.
He emphasized that in the present scenario of climate change and global economic challenges, strengthening vegetable cultivation can play a major role in ensuring economic security for the farming community. “Our climatic conditions are among the best in the country for the cultivation of both traditional and exotic vegetables. To fully channelize this potential, a collaborative approach is needed where both the farming community and the Agriculture Department work hand in hand,” he added.
Seed production Officer Kashmir, Mir Ajaz Hassan, a large number of farmers, kitchen garden enthusiasts, and backyard growers from across the Kashmir Valley were present on the occasion.
