{"id":12798,"date":"2026-02-20T19:57:41","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T19:57:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/?p=12798"},"modified":"2026-02-20T19:57:41","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T19:57:41","slug":"sir-of-electoral-roll-in-jk-expected-to-start-in-april-eci","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/index.php\/2026\/02\/20\/sir-of-electoral-roll-in-jk-expected-to-start-in-april-eci\/","title":{"rendered":"SIR of electoral roll in J&#038;K expected to start in April: ECI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Poll body writes to CEO to complete preparatory work at earliest<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Srinagar, Feb 20: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to start the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral roll in Jammu &amp; Kashmir from April 2026.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter, a copy of which is in possession of news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the ECI has written to Chief Electoral Officers of 17 States and six Union Territories including Jammu &amp; Kashmir Union Territory to complete preparatory work related to the SIR at the earliest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the above States\/UTs is expected to start from April, 2026, you are requested to complete preparatory work related to SIR at the earliest,\u201d reads the letter.<\/p>\n<p>On June 24, 2025, the poll-body ordered the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to be undertaken in States and UTs.<\/p>\n<p>The ECI carried out exercise in Bihar first.<\/p>\n<p>After completion of SIR in Bihar, ECI announced SIR exercise for nine states and three Union Territories.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission on October 27, 2025 announced the SIR exercise in 12 State\/UTs, which is underway.
