{"id":12887,"date":"2026-02-21T19:14:56","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T19:14:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/?p=12887"},"modified":"2026-02-21T19:14:56","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T19:14:56","slug":"nmc-approves-24-new-super-specialty-seats-for-2025-26-academic-session","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/index.php\/2026\/02\/21\/nmc-approves-24-new-super-specialty-seats-for-2025-26-academic-session\/","title":{"rendered":"NMC approves 24 new super-specialty seats for 2025-26 academic session"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Will boost advanced healthcare in J&amp;K: Health Minister<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Srinagar, Feb 21 (KNO): In a significant push towards enhancing advanced healthcare services and medical education in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 24 new and enhanced DM and MCh super-specialty seats for the academic session 2025\u201326.<\/p>\n<p>Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo according to the news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO) termed the move a \u201cmajor boost\u201d to J&amp;K\u2019s healthcare infrastructure and academic ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>She said that the newly sanctioned seats will be distributed among leading institutions, including Government Medical College Srinagar, Government Medical College Jammu, and Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura.<\/p>\n<p>The expansion is expected to significantly enhance the capacity of these institutions to offer super-specialty training and deliver advanced patient care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis expansion will strengthen tertiary care, build specialist capacity, and create more opportunities for our young doctors within J&amp;K,\u201d Itoo said, adding that the initiative will also help reduce the burden on patients who currently travel outside the Union Territory for specialized treatment.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on X, the minister reiterated the government\u2019s commitment to upgrading healthcare institutions and improving access to quality medical services. \u201cA major boost to advanced healthcare and medical education in J&amp;K. NMC has approved 24 new\/increased DM and MCh super-specialty seats for AY 2025\u201326 across GMC Srinagar, GMC Jammu, and SKIMS. This expansion will strengthen tertiary care and create more opportunities for our young doctors,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said that the addition of super-specialty seats will not only improve the doctor-to-patient ratio in critical disciplines but also contribute to the long-term goal of making Jammu and Kashmir self-reliant in advanced medical care.
