Jammu, Apr 27: Ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah\u2019s visit to Ladakh, the administration of the Union Territory on Monday created five new districts, taking the total number of districts in the UT to seven.<\/p>\n
In a post on X, LG of Ladakh,Vinai Kumar Saxena, as per news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO), announced the creation of five new districts.<\/p>\n
\u201cA historic day for Ladakh. I have approved the notification for the creation of five new districts in Ladakh, fulfilling the aspirations and long-pending demand of the people of Ladakh,\u201d the LG announced.<\/p>\n
The LG said the creation of five new districts \u2014 Nubra, Sham, Changthang, Zanskar, and Drass \u2014 means Ladakh will now have seven districts, up from the existing two.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe development is aligned with Hon\u2019ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi\u2019s vision of a developed and prosperous Ladakh. This transformative decision, already approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs in August 2024 under the leadership of Hon\u2019ble Minister of Home Affairs Shri Amit Shah ji, will strengthen grassroots governance, decentralise administration, and ensure faster delivery of public services to the people of Ladakh, especially those in remote and far-flung areas,\u201d the LG said.<\/p>\n
He added that the creation of new districts, apart from bringing governance closer to citizens, will create new avenues for growth, employment, and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n
