{"id":22158,"date":"2026-06-11T01:27:53","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T01:27:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/?p=22158"},"modified":"2026-06-11T01:27:53","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T01:27:53","slug":"non-solar-hours-bring-250-mw-power-crunch-to-jk-ladakh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/index.php\/2026\/06\/11\/non-solar-hours-bring-250-mw-power-crunch-to-jk-ladakh\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Non-solar hours bring 250 MW power crunch to J&#038;K, Ladakh\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>No bilateral advance procurement planned: NRPC<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Srinagar, Jun 10: Despite an increase in power generation, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are facing peak 250 Megawatts (MWs) deficit during non-solar hours in several blocks.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, there has been no bilateral advance procurement scheduled.<\/p>\n<p>According to the official documents available with the news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Northern Regional Power Committee (NRPC) in a month ahead RA analysis observations said that the regions were facing 250 MWs power deficit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c250 MW peak deficit is observed during non-solar hours across some blocks, where no bilateral advance procurement is scheduled,\u201d it reads.<\/p>\n<p>The committee however said that the gap is proposed to be managed through the short term market during non-solar periods.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, NRPC in a Technical Coordination Committee (TCC) discussion said that J&amp;K representative informed that with the availability of hydro power and low demand in summer months, power position in J&amp;K is expected to be comfortable<\/p>\n<p>The Committee has also asked the SLDC of J&amp;K to share the details of further tied up and arrangements to meet the peak demand with NRLDC and NRPC.<\/p>\n<p>Pertinently, in the first week of June-2026, KNO reported that deficiency in reactive power support has left the J&amp;K grid gasping for voltage stability.<\/p>\n<p>The severe voltage triggered by insufficient reactive compensation in J&amp;K is raising serious questions about the region\u2019s power reliability.<\/p>\n<p>The authorities had said, \u201cDue to inadequate reactive compensation in J&amp;K State Transmission Utility (STU) network, severe low voltages have been observed in J&amp;K grid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reactive power compensation is the management of reactive power to improve the efficiency, stability, and power quality of an Alternating current (AC) electrical system.<\/p>\n<p>In May-2026, KNO reported that authorities have revealed power voltages in Jammu and Kashmir have slumped to severe low levels.<\/p>\n<p>As already reported by this news agency, Jammu and Kashmir has indicated that a power load requirement of up to 7 Gigawatts (GWs) by the coming five years needs to be considered in the winter season\u2014signalling major infrastructure upgrades to avoid seasonal blackouts.
