{"id":2301,"date":"2025-10-28T18:07:58","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T18:07:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/?p=2301"},"modified":"2025-10-28T18:07:58","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T18:07:58","slug":"govt-rules-out-road-widening-of-several-roads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/index.php\/2025\/10\/28\/govt-rules-out-road-widening-of-several-roads\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt rules out road widening of several roads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Srinagar, Oct 28:\u00a0<\/strong>The Jammu and Kashmir government has clarified that there is currently no proposal to widen and upgrade key city roads, including Rawalpora\u2013Rangreth, Rambagh\u2013Chadoora, Natipora\u2013Nowgam and the Barzulla\u2013Srinagar International Airport stretches, citing major land and cost constraints.<\/p>\n<p>In a written reply to a question by MLA Mushtaq Guroo, the Public Works (R&amp;B) Department said that widening these roads would require \u201csubstantial land and structure acquisition\u201d as they pass through densely built-up urban areas with limited right of way. \u201cThe widening proposal will involve significant cost implications, since acquisition of private land with many existing residential and commercial structures would be required,\u201d the reply stated.<\/p>\n<p>However, the government informed that a flyover from Barzulla to Humhama has been proposed by the PWD (UT of J&amp;K) as part of \u2018NH-444 alignment\u2019 and the proposal has already been submitted to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) for approval. \u201cOnce the alignment gets approved, the DPR for said flyover shall be taken up to decongest the said stretch and ensure hassle-free traffic movement on this vital road from Barzulla to Humhama International Airport,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n<p>The government also said the process of land acquisition for the flyover will begin once the project is sanctioned.<\/p>\n<p>When asked whether any traffic volume study had been conducted on the Rambagh\u2013Natipora and Rawalpora\u2013Rangreth corridors and whether steps were being taken for footpaths or subways to ease pedestrian movement, the department responded: \u201cNo, Sir.\u201d<strong>\u2014(KNO)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Srinagar, Oct 28:\u00a0The Jammu and Kashmir government has clarified that there is currently no proposal to widen and upgrade key city roads, including Rawalpora\u2013Rangreth, Rambagh\u2013Chadoora, Natipora\u2013Nowgam and the Barzulla\u2013Srinagar International Airport stretches, citing major land and cost constraints.
