{"id":28418,"date":"2026-08-20T02:52:04","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T02:52:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/?p=28418"},"modified":"2026-08-20T02:52:04","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T02:52:04","slug":"us-jk-engagement-to-widen-cm-omar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/index.php\/2026\/08\/20\/us-jk-engagement-to-widen-cm-omar\/","title":{"rendered":"US-J&#038;K engagement to widen: CM Omar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Says meeting with US envoy focused on what Washington can do for J&amp;K<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Srinagar, Aug 19: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said he was \u201cvery hopeful and optimistic\u201d that engagement between the United States and Jammu and Kashmir would widen and deepen in the years ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to reporters outside his residence here after meeting US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, Omar said the discussions focused on India-US relations, with particular emphasis on what the United States could do for Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was, as Ambassador Gor has said, a very good meeting. We had an opportunity to discuss the relations between our two countries, but with specific focus on what the U.S. can do with Jammu and Kashmir,\u201d Omar said, as per the news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO).<\/p>\n<p>He said there were certain \u201clegacy issues\u201d that would be addressed over time, while expressing willingness to continue the conversation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are obviously certain legacy issues that over time we will be working to resolve, but we look forward to taking this conversation further,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Omar said the engagement would involve discussions between the US envoy and Washington, as well as between him and the Government of India in New Delhi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a conversation that will take place both between Ambassador Gor and Washington and between me and the Government of India in New Delhi,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very hopeful and optimistic that the engagement between the United States of America and Jammu and Kashmir will both widen and deepen in the years ahead,\u201d Omar added.
