Srinagar, Aug 24: The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah on Monday rolled out a phased plan to upgrade 714 High Schools into full-fledged K-12 composite institutions.<\/p>\n
According to the news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the decision was taken in a review meeting on Monday chaired by CM Omar Abdullah.<\/p>\n
K-12 education refers to the system of public and private primary and secondary schooling that spans from Kindergarten (K) through the 12th Grade (12).<\/p>\n
Taking to the microblogging site X, Office of Chief Minister, J&K posted, \u201cChief Minister chaired a review meeting of the School Education Department at Civil Secretariat, Srinagar.\u201d<\/p>\n
It said that the meeting focused on improving the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) at the higher secondary level.<\/p>\n
The meeting also reviewed the phased plan to upgrade 714 High Schools into K-12 composite schools, including requirements for teaching and non-teaching staff, infrastructure, laboratories and other essential facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Chief Minister\u2019s Office said that the upgradation will ensure continuity in school education, expand access to Classes XI and XII.<\/p>\n
