Srinagar, Sep 01: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday said it has arrested two police officers for allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs 15,000 bribe in Srinagar.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued to the news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said the ACB received a written complaint alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, the Investigating Officer (IO) of Case FIR No. 65\/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, Srinagar, had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant through his accomplice, Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub-Inspector at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, for closing the case as \u201cNot Admitted\u201d between the parties.<\/p>\n
He said that upon receiving the complaint, the ACB conducted verification of the allegations, which prima facie established the demand for illegal gratification.<\/p>\n
Accordingly, Case FIR No. 12\/2026 under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the BNS was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, and an investigation was taken up.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson said that during the course of the investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team caught Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub-Inspector, Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, red-handed while demanding and accepting the Rs 15,000 bribe on behalf of the case\u2019s IO, PSI Karanjeet Singh, from the complainant.<\/p>\n
He said the bribe amount was recovered from the accused\u2019s possession in the presence of independent witnesses. Bhat was taken into custody in accordance with law, while his co-conspirator, PSI Karanjeet Singh, was subsequently arrested by the Bureau. Further investigation is in progress.
