{"id":30298,"date":"2026-09-14T19:45:01","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T19:45:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/?p=30298"},"modified":"2026-09-14T19:45:01","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T19:45:01","slug":"jks-domestic-power-demand-likely-to-surge-11-by-fy32","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/index.php\/2026\/09\/14\/jks-domestic-power-demand-likely-to-surge-11-by-fy32\/","title":{"rendered":"J&#038;K\u2019s domestic power demand likely to surge 11% by FY32"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Srinagar, Sep 14 (KNO):\u00a0<\/strong>Jammu and Kashmir power sector is facing a massive transformation as the domestic power demand is projected to surge by 11 percent by the fiscal 2031-2032.<\/p>\n<p>The figures said that the power demand of the domestic consumers may surge from 5352 Million Units (MUs) to over 15,000 MUs\u2014swallowing nearly two-thirds of the territory&#8217;s total energy consumption.<\/p>\n<p>According to the official documents available with the news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO), authorities have forecasted that in the overall power sector, the domestic power consumption in the year 2021-22 was 5352 MUs that may surge to 15,066 MUs by the year 2031-32.<\/p>\n<p>It also said that authorities from Jammu and Kashmir targets to reduce its Transmission and Distribution (T&amp;D) losses from 46.9 percent to 16.4 percent by 2031\u201332.<\/p>\n<p>The documents further projected that the peak power demand across Jammu and Kashmir may jump by 54 percent to 4,633 MWs in 2031-32 from 3,000 MWs in 2021-22.<\/p>\n<p>As already reported by KNO, Jammu and Kashmir will likely require nearly an additional 450 Megawatts (MWs) of power during the peak hours in the coming three years.<\/p>\n<p>The official documents in this regard had said that in the ongoing fiscal, Jammu and Kashmir may have a peak demand of 3813 MWs.<\/p>\n<p>It also said that in the coming fiscal 2027-28, the region is likely to require additional 151 MWs of power during the peak time with a total demand projection of 3964 MWs.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the projections said that in the year 2028-29, Jammu and Kashmir may require additional 300 MWs of power during the peak hours in comparison to the projected demand of the ongoing fiscal.<\/p>\n<p>The official figures also said that in the year 2029-30, Jammu and Kashmir will likely have a peak demand of 4262 MWs that amounts to 449 MWs of additional energy demand to the projection made for the year 2026-27.<\/p>\n<p>Pertinently, this news agency earlier reported that in the past 12 years, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a surge in power demand by more than 24 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The Government of India (GoI) had said that from the fiscal 2014-15 to 2025-26, Jammu and Kashmir recorded a surge in demand of 3,971 MU.<\/p>\n<p>The official figures further reveal that the annual energy demand in J&amp;K rose from 16,214 Million Units (MU) in 2014-15 to 20,185 MU in 2025-26.<\/p>\n<p>It also said that the peak power demand at 20,374 MU was recorded in 2024-25<strong>\u2014(KNO)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Srinagar, Sep 14 (KNO):\u00a0Jammu and Kashmir power sector is facing a massive transformation as the domestic power demand is projected to surge by 11 percent by the fiscal 2031-2032.
