{"id":30416,"date":"2026-09-15T19:24:56","date_gmt":"2026-09-15T19:24:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/?p=30416"},"modified":"2026-09-15T19:24:56","modified_gmt":"2026-09-15T19:24:56","slug":"bring-ucc-to-parl-if-you-have-numbers-cm-omar-to-bjp-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/index.php\/2026\/09\/15\/bring-ucc-to-parl-if-you-have-numbers-cm-omar-to-bjp-govt\/","title":{"rendered":"Bring UCC to Parl if you have numbers: CM Omar to BJP govt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Srinagar, Sep 15: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government to bring the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) legislation before Parliament if it has the numbers to pass it, questioning the move to pursue the issue through individual states.<\/p>\n<p>Talking to reporters here, Omar, as reported by the news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said an issue concerning the entire country should not be decided selectively by states and maintained that Parliament is the appropriate forum for legislation of national importance.<\/p>\n<p>He questioned the support for the UCC within the BJP-led NDA, pointing to reported reservations among some allies\u00a0over\u00a0its implementation. \u201cIf their own people are not ready for this, how can they say that it should be implemented in the whole country?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Minister said the government should bring the legislation before Parliament rather than attempting to push it through individual states. \u201cNot through the back door; they should bring this bill to Parliament. And see if they\u00a0have\u00a0numbers or not,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Omar said implementing the UCC only in BJP-ruled states would not make it a universal law, as the party does not govern all states and Union Territories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe whole country is not a BJP-ruled state. There are a number of states and territories that the party does not rule. Therefore, if you apply it only to BJP states, it\u2019s not universal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0legislation of such a nature, the CM said,\u00a0should be decided by the country as a whole through Parliament. \u201cSomething that is of this nature should not be decided by individual states. It has to be decided by the country as a whole. The country as a whole is represented not in the state but in Parliament,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LAC troop reduction significant<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the reported reduction in Indian and Chinese troop deployments along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the J&amp;K CM termed it a significant development and expressed hope that the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) would also improve with time. \u201cIt is a significant development of the government. Similarly, we hope over time that along the Line of Control also, things will get better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Our foreign policy is our own\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0comments and assessments by other countries regarding India\u2019s foreign policy, the Chief Minister said India should not seek certificates from foreign governments or attach excessive importance to either praise or criticism. \u201cOur foreign policy is our own. Why do we look for other countries\u2019 certificates?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He cautioned against selectively welcoming favourable comments from other countries while rejecting criticism, saying India should maintain its own independent approach to foreign policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t cherry-pick. If there is opposition in the future, we will say, don\u2019t interfere in our policy. When they praise us, we say, it\u2019s a very good thing,\u201d Abdullah said.\u00a0\u201cNeither do we want to hear their\u00a0praises\u00a0nor their opposition. Our foreign policy is our own.
