{"id":3072,"date":"2025-11-05T16:47:48","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T16:47:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/?p=3072"},"modified":"2025-11-05T16:47:48","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T16:47:48","slug":"skuast-k-organizes-training-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/index.php\/2025\/11\/05\/skuast-k-organizes-training-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"SKUAST-K organizes training programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>GANDERBAL, NOVEMBER 5:<\/strong>\u00a0The Division of Forest Products and Utilization, Faculty of Forestry, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), Wednesday organized a one-day training programme on \u201cPromotion and Cultivation of Bamboo in Kashmir.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The programme aimed to create awareness among farmers about the economic and ecological potential of bamboo cultivation in the region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0The event was graced by Member of Parliament, Mian Altaf Ahmad, as the Chief Guest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0In his address, the Member of Parliament appreciated the efforts of the Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST-K, for their continuous contribution towards the upliftment of tribal and rural communities through innovative forestry initiatives. \u201cBamboo can be a game-changer for the economy of hill farmers. Such programmes bring scientific knowledge to the grassroots level,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dean, Faculty of Forestry, Prof. Arshid Hussain Mughal, highlighted the importance of bamboo as a fast-growing, sustainable resource that supports livelihoods and environmental conservation. He emphasized the university\u2019s commitment to promoting green and income-generating forestry practices across Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Ganderbal, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, , lauded SKUAST-K\u2019s outreach initiatives and said that bamboo cultivation aligns with the government\u2019s vision for sustainable rural development and employment generation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Head, Division of Forest Products and Utilization, Prof. Parvez Ahmad Sofi, presented the overview of the training programme and discussed various aspects of bamboo propagation, management, and utilization.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Ganderbal, Iqbal Rasool Dar, highlighted the ecological importance of bamboo in soil conservation and biodiversity enhancement. He stressed that bamboo can play a significant role in combating land degradation in Kashmir\u2019s hilly terrains.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0On the occasion, a book titled \u201cCommercial Medicinal Plants of Kashmir Himalayas\u201d authored by Dr. Tahir Mushtaq and Dr. P. A.
