Srinagar, Sep 24: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Thursday hit back at the BJP amid a ruckus in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly over the government’s decision to provide six free LPG cylinders annually to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families.<\/p>\n
Speaking to reporters, Choudhary, according to the news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO), questioned the BJP over the delay in the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n
\u201cAsk BJP where is statehood? They had promised statehood after the elections. Where is that?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Chief Minister said the BJP had made commitments on the issue at the highest constitutional forums, while the National Conference had made its promises directly to the people.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe made promises before the people, but BJP made promises in Parliament and before the Supreme Court. Who is a bigger liar than them?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Choudhary said the government had already begun implementing its manifesto commitments and still had three years remaining in its term.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have at least started working on our promises. We still have three years. Remind us in 2029 and hold us accountable then,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He also accused the BJP of relying on “fake narratives” to mislead the public.<\/p>\n
On the government’s legislative agenda, Choudhary said every bill brought before the Assembly was important and that the government would continue to support measures aimed at benefiting the people of Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n
