Srinagar, Sep 25: The Congress on Friday staged a brief protest in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.<\/p>\n
As soon as proceedings of the House began, Congress lawmakers carrying banners that read \u201cGyanesh Kumar resign, protect the vote, protect democracy\u201d raised slogans demanding the CEC\u2019s resignation.<\/p>\n
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, as per the news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO), questioned legislators Nizamuddin Bhat, Irfan Hafiz Lone and Iftikhar for bringing banners inside the House. \u201cWho has given you permission to bring banners here? Close them,\u201d the Speaker asked.<\/p>\n
He told the protesting lawmakers that the Election Commission of India was not under the jurisdiction of the J&K Assembly. \u201cECI is not under our control. I have disallowed it.
