{"id":32397,"date":"2026-10-10T22:23:50","date_gmt":"2026-10-10T22:23:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/?p=32397"},"modified":"2026-10-10T22:23:50","modified_gmt":"2026-10-10T22:23:50","slug":"govt-mulls-demand-driven-subjects-in-jk-colleges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/index.php\/2026\/10\/10\/govt-mulls-demand-driven-subjects-in-jk-colleges\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt mulls demand-driven subjects in J&#038;K colleges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UT witnesses 17% increase in student enrolment: Edu Min\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Srinagar, Oct 10: The government is considering introducing only those subjects in colleges across Jammu and Kashmir that are purely driven by student demand.<\/p>\n<p>According to the news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Education Minister Sakina Itoo while speaking to reporters here said, \u201cThe Higher Education Department (HED) is trying to introduce only those subjects in colleges that students want to study.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are trying to introduce subjects like agriculture, horticulture, tourism, music and several others in the colleges of Jammu and Kashmir. The progress has been initiated in this regard,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister further said, \u201cThere was a mushrooming growth of colleges in Jammu and Kashmir but there was no faculty in those institutions and there were no such subjects that were demanded by the students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, in past two years we have tried to provide faculty to every college as per the subjects taught in those institutions. There are still some colleges that require more faculty,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Sakina Itoo added that \u201cMany colleges in Jammu and Kashmir didn\u2019t had buildings but the ruling NC government is ensuring to provide every possible infrastructure to the students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think there are very few colleges that have been approved but have not been developed yet and mostly it has occurred because of the land dispute and placement issues,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The minister further informed that in the ongoing academic year, J&amp;K have seen 17 percent increase in student enrolment. \u201cThe government is working hard on upgrading the infrastructure in colleges.\u201d (KNO)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UT witnesses 17% increase in student enrolment: Edu Min\u00a0 Srinagar, Oct 10: The government is considering introducing only those subjects in colleges across Jammu and Kashmir that are purely driven by student demand.
