{"id":34375,"date":"2026-11-06T01:10:40","date_gmt":"2026-11-06T01:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/?p=34375"},"modified":"2026-11-06T01:10:40","modified_gmt":"2026-11-06T01:10:40","slug":"eci-to-announce-jk-electoral-roll-revision-in-due-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/index.php\/2026\/11\/06\/eci-to-announce-jk-electoral-roll-revision-in-due-course\/","title":{"rendered":"ECI to announce J&#038;K electoral roll revision in due course"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Srinagar, Nov 05:\u00a0<\/strong>The Election Commission of India on Thursday said the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in Jammu &amp; Kashmir will be announced in due course of time.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission said the schedule for roll revision in J&amp;K, Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh will be announced later, keeping in view their weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Also, for the 3 States\/UTs namely Himachal Pradesh, Jammu &amp; Kashmir and Ladakh, where SIR has not been started so far, schedule for roll revision will be announced in due course of time keeping in view their weather conditions,&#8221; the ECI said, as per news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO).<\/p>\n<p>The announcement brings clarity on why Jammu &amp; Kashmir has been left out of the ongoing nationwide revision exercise. With winter setting in and large parts of J&amp;K, particularly the higher reaches, becoming inaccessible due to snowfall, the Commission has opted to defer the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>The last revision of electoral rolls in Jammu &amp; Kashmir was carried out in 2024. Since then, no such revision activity has been undertaken in the UT.<\/p>\n<p>The SSR is particularly important in the context of Jammu and Kashmir. It would provide updated electoral rolls for the municipal elections, which have been delayed inordinately.<\/p>\n<p>Urban local body elections in J&amp;K have been pending, leaving municipalities and municipal councils without elected representatives.
