{"id":5789,"date":"2025-12-03T18:28:44","date_gmt":"2025-12-03T18:28:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/?p=5789"},"modified":"2025-12-03T18:28:44","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T18:28:44","slug":"jkha-protests-for-welfare-schemes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/index.php\/2025\/12\/03\/jkha-protests-for-welfare-schemes\/","title":{"rendered":"JKHA protests for welfare schemes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Srinagar, Dec 03:\u00a0<\/strong>On \u2018World Disability Day\u2019, scores of differently-abled persons under the banner of the Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association (JKHA) Wednesday morning staged a protest at Press Enclave, Srinagar\u2014demanding implementation of welfare schemes for persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters were carrying placards that read \u2018Insaaf Karo, Disabled Ke Saath Nafrat Nahi\u2019 and \u2018We Need Accessibility\u2019, they said \u201cWe facing the government&#8217;s apathy and indifference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They further said that despite repeated assurances, the administration has failed to provide them the basic facilities like job reservations and accessible infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of J&amp;K Handicapped Welfare Society Sajad Anwar Masoodi said, \u201cDespite tall promises, nothing has changed for us. We continue to struggle for pensions, employment opportunities, and barrier-free spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cWe are not asking for sympathy, we are demanding our rights. The government must ensure accessibility and inclusion at every level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The members of the JKHA appealed the government to implement special employment schemes for disabled youth and requested to provide them laptops with screen-reading software for the visually impaired students. Besides, the association urges the government to strengthen the Braille system of education from primary to university levels.<\/p>\n<p>They also demanded four percent job reservation in all government departments, fuel-operated scooters for mobility and zero-interest loans to help them start small businesses and live with dignity.<\/p>\n<p>Masoodi said that while other states have rolled out robust welfare policies, \u201cThe disabled community in J&amp;K continues to be ignored and sidelined.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are struggling every single day to survive with dignity.
