{"id":7053,"date":"2025-12-16T18:27:24","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T18:27:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/?p=7053"},"modified":"2025-12-16T18:27:24","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T18:27:24","slug":"kashmir-mutton-traders-aghast-as-punjab-stays-silent-on-harassment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/index.php\/2025\/12\/16\/kashmir-mutton-traders-aghast-as-punjab-stays-silent-on-harassment\/","title":{"rendered":"Kashmir mutton traders aghast as \u2018Punjab stays silent on harassment\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Srinagar, Dec 16:\u00a0<\/strong>Twelve days after the Jammu and Kashmir Government formally wrote to the Punjab Chief Minister seeking an end to alleged extortion and harassment of livestock transporters at Shambhu and Madhopur checkpoints, there has been no response from the Punjab administration, fuelling anger and frustration among Kashmir\u2019s mutton traders.<\/p>\n<p>The communication, dated December 4, was sent by the office of the J&amp;K Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Transport and allied departments, requesting \u201can urgent appointment\u201d with the Punjab Chief Minister to resolve issues concerning the interstate movement of livestock to J&amp;K.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite repeated follow-ups, Punjab has not even acknowledged the letter, insiders from the Mutton Dealers Association said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s shocking that even after a formal letter from one government to another, there\u2019s total silence. The transporters are being bled dry at these checkpoints, and nobody in Punjab seems to care,\u201d said a senior mutton dealer.<\/p>\n<p>The J&amp;K Government had earlier flagged the issue after reports of \u201cillegal payments and harassment\u201d at Punjab\u2019s transit points surfaced, with dealers warning of a possible \u2018price hike\u2019 if the extortion continued unchecked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are being pushed to the wall,\u201d said Mehraj Ud Din, General Secretary of the Kashmir Mutton Dealers Association. \u201cOur government did its job by taking up the issue officially on December 4. The question is, why is Punjab silent? Does this mean they endorse what\u2019s happening on the highways?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dealers have urged the Punjab government to immediately intervene and direct its enforcement agencies to stop illegal practices that obstruct livestock transport to J&amp;K.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf this continues, it will hit not just traders but consumers in the Valley.
