{"id":869,"date":"2025-10-09T19:47:52","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T19:47:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/?p=869"},"modified":"2025-10-09T19:47:52","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T19:47:52","slug":"sc-to-hear-petitions-on-statehood-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/index.php\/2025\/10\/09\/sc-to-hear-petitions-on-statehood-today\/","title":{"rendered":"SC to hear petitions on statehood today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>KNO Special Correspondent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Srinagar, Oct 09: The Supreme Court will hear a batch of petitions tomorrow seeking the restoration of Jammu &amp; Kashmir\u2019s statehood.<\/p>\n<p>According to the causelist released by the Apex Court\u2019s registry, the petitions are listed before the Court of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) on Friday, October 10.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe case is listed for hearing before a bench headed by the Chief Justice of India,\u201d advocate Soayib Qureshi told the news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO).<\/p>\n<p>He further said that the Union of India has not yet filed any response in the matter.<\/p>\n<p>On August 14, during a hearing of the case, the Supreme Court granted eight weeks\u2019 time to the Solicitor General of India to seek instructions from the government regarding the pleas for restoration of J&amp;K\u2019s statehood.<\/p>\n<p>At that time, the CJI emphasized that the real situation on the ground must be considered and that incidents such as the Pahalgam attack cannot be overlooked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou must also take into account the ground realities; you cannot ignore what happened in Pahalgam,\u201d said the bench led by CJI.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioners have argued that the continued delay in restoring statehood violates the principle of federalism, which is part of the basic structure of the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>They have also submitted that no steps have been taken to lay out a clear timeline or implement the Supreme Court\u2019s December 2023 directive stating that \u201crestoration of statehood shall take place at the earliest and as soon as possible.\u201d (KNO)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KNO Special Correspondent Srinagar, Oct 09: The Supreme Court will hear a batch of petitions tomorrow seeking the restoration of Jammu &amp; Kashmir\u2019s statehood.
