{"id":9023,"date":"2026-01-07T18:35:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T18:35:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/?p=9023"},"modified":"2026-01-07T18:35:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T18:35:10","slug":"lop-sharma-hails-nmcs-historic-decision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmirthunder.in\/index.php\/2026\/01\/07\/lop-sharma-hails-nmcs-historic-decision\/","title":{"rendered":"LoP Sharma hails NMC\u2019s \u2018historic\u2019 decision"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u2018Move upholds faith, transparency, protects students\u2019 future\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Srinagar, Jan 07: Leader of Opposition in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma, on Wednesday welcomed the decision of the National Medical Commission (NMC) to withdraw the Letter of Permission (LoP) granted to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College of Excellence.<\/p>\n<p>He said the action was taken after the NMC found \u201cserious irregularities\u201d during inspection, calling it a step that safeguards both students\u2019 futures and public faith associated with the shrine.<\/p>\n<p>The LoP Sharma, according to the news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the move not only addressed long-standing irregularities but also safeguarded the academic interests of MBBS students, who have now been accommodated in other medical colleges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI welcome the historic decision of the National Medical Commission to withdraw the Letter of Permission granted to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College of Excellence after serious irregularities were found during inspection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnsuring that affected MBBS students are accommodated in other colleges reflects a responsible and student-centric approach,\u201d LoP Sharma said.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed \u201csincere gratitude\u201d to Union Health Minister J P Nadda, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the National Medical Commission for upholding public faith and respecting the deep religious sentiments associated with the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis decision reaffirms the importance of preserving faith, transparency and accountability while safeguarding the future of students,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>CITES FINDINGS OF NMC ASSESSMENT<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the NMC\u2019s recent inspection through its National Assessment and Rating Board, he said the review uncovered \u201cmany irregularities,\u201d prompting the Commission to act decisively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeeping these irregularities in mind, the letter of permission was withdrawn yesterday and all the students who were studying MBBS were admitted to different colleges,\u201d Sharma said. \u201cThe Health Ministry, NMC and the Lieutenant Governor deserve full credit for ensuring both fairness and respect for people\u2019s emotions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>FAITH AND PUBLIC SENTIMENT<\/p>\n<p>LoP Sharma said the decision has restored the faith of millions of devotees across the country who hold deep reverence for the Vaishno Devi Shrine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen more than one community was admitted, the hearts of Sanatanis and Hindus across the country were touched. All the worship and offerings there are meant for the propagation of religion,\u201d he said, adding that the Shrine Board\u2019s involvement in running a medical college had \u201churt religious sentiments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the NMC and the Health Ministry had increased the honour of faith and devotion through their action.<\/p>\n<p>CRITICISES CM OMAR ABDULLAH<\/p>\n<p>The LoP also accused former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of \u201ctrying to give the issue a communal colour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way Omar Abdullah Sahib tried to divert the issue and turn it into a Hindu-Muslim debate, he has been given a strong answer,\u201d Sharma said. \u201cStudents\u2019 careers have been safeguarded and people\u2019s faith has been respected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that while the BJP had no issue with any individual or student, its concern was over preserving the sanctity of the shrine and ensuring offerings made for \u2018Vedic and religious purposes\u2019 were not diverted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had demanded that a Gurukul and a Veda Research Centre be opened there. There are many colleges in the country to make doctors\u2014but this shrine should remain a place of devotion and spiritual pursuit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>DECISION REFLECTS BJP\u2019S COMMITMENT TO FAITH<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis decision once again proves that the faith and devotion connected to Mata Vaishno Devi will remain intact,\u201d Sharma said, stressing that the BJP gives \u201cspecial importance\u201d to the sentiments of devotees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe emotions of the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been honoured. I once again thank Health Minister J.P. Nadda and the National Medical Commission for this decision,\u201d he said.
