BUDGAM, APRIL 18: As part of the ongoing 100-day intensive Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), a mega awareness programme was Saturday organised at Higher Secondary School Hardpanzoo in Sub-Division Khansahib.

The event, as per an official statement, was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan.

The programme witnessed the presence of SDM Khansahib, Jahangir Giri, ACP Budgam, District Information Officer Budgam, District Social Welfare Officer Budgam, Tehsildar Khag, BDO concerned, and other officers.

A large gathering of students from various schools across the sub-division actively participated in the event, reflecting strong public engagement in the anti-drug campaign.

On the occasion, the DC  inspected paintings prepared by school children on the theme of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and appreciated their creative expression and awareness on the issue.

A plantation drive was also carried out within the school premises, symbolizing a commitment towards a healthy and sustainable future.

Students also presented cultural programmes delivering powerful messages against drug abuse and advocating for a drug-free Budgam.

Addressing the gathering, the DC emphasized that eradication of the drug menace cannot be achieved by any single individual and requires collective and collaborative efforts of all stakeholders.

He urged the public, especially the youth, to stand united against substance abuse and actively contribute towards building a drug-free society. He further stated that the District Administration and Police are working in close coordination to eliminate the menace from its roots.

Highlighting the comprehensive approach adopted under the 100-day action plan, he informed that strong rehabilitation mechanisms have also been put in place. The Drug De-Addiction Centre at the District Headquarters is functioning 24×7, while the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) at District Hospital Budgam is actively providing counselling and treatment services to those in need.

The DC also stressed the importance of post-rehabilitation support, stating that efforts are being made to reintegrate affected individuals into society by making them productive through various employment-generating schemes such as Mission YUVA, PMEGP, and HADP.

The DC also highlighted that similar awareness programmes and activities under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan are being conducted across all educational institutions, colleges, ITIs, line departments, blocks, panchayats, and municipalities throughout Budgam district to ensure widespread outreach and community participation.

The DC said that these programme gave a message of renewed commitment from all stakeholders to intensify efforts and work collectively towards a healthier, drug-free Budgam.
