STPs for Baramulla, Rajouri get nod

Srinagar, Apr 30: The J&K cabinet on Tuesday approved a 2% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees and pensioners, effective from January 1, 2026.

Sources told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, gave its go-ahead for enhancing DA by two percent, raising it from 58 percent to 60 percent.

Sources disclosed that the cabinet has also approved a proposal to unify “The Jammu & Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act” and “The Jammu & Kashmir Self-Reliant Cooperatives Act” into a single law. With this decision, instead of two separate laws, there will now be a single consolidated law governing cooperatives in the Union Territory.

The cabinet has also cleared a proposal for the construction of a sewerage treatment plant in Baramulla and Rajouri respectively at an estimated cost of Rs 37 crore and Rs 24 core.

The cabinet also approved proposals of cadre review and reorganization of the Jal Shakti Department.

It also gave its nod to recruitment rules for the State Motor Garages, and re-designation of Medical Superintendents, Deputy Medical Superintendents, and Assistant Medical Superintendents in Government Medical Colleges as Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors respectively.

According to sources, the proposals will now go to the Lieutenant Governor for approval. (KNO)
