ANANTNAG, MAY 12: As part of the 100 Day Nasha Mukt J&K Campaign, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)-Anantnag, SKUAST-K on Monday organized an extensive awareness programme on drug abuse at its Dooru campus.

The event witnessed, as per an official statement, enthusiastic participation from senior officers from civil administration and police, government officials, students, civil society members, religious figures, farmers, academicians, and youth representatives who collectively pledged to contribute towards building a drug-free society.

Addressing the gathering, SDM Dooru Parvaiz Rahim, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, emphasized the need for sustained community participation, grassroot awareness, and youth engagement to effectively combat the menace of drug addiction. He called for collective societal action involving all stakeholders to eradicate substance abuse and safeguard the future generations.

Delivering a motivating lecture, the Senior Scientist KVK, Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad Khan advised the students and youth to follow the path of discipline and determination to save themselves from drugs and to develop into responsible citizens. He briefed about the evolution of the centre as a scientific and agricultural extension institution, adding the organization is addressing key societal concerns affecting rural communities and youth.

Speaking on the occasion, the SHO Dooru sensitized the participants regarding the legal implications of drug abuse and narcotics trafficking. He urged students, parents, and society to remain vigilant against drug peddlers so the youth don’t fall victim to the addiction.

A pledge ceremony was also organized wherein all participants collectively resolved to work towards making the society, district and the country drug-free besides promoting disciplined and healthy lifestyles.

The programme concluded with a large awareness rally in which hundreds of participants marched from the campus to adjoining villages with great enthusiasm. They carried placards and raised anti-drug slogans like “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life” to sensitize the general public about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
