Srinagar, Jun 05: The Jammu and Kashmir Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (JK LCMA), in collaboration with Crescent Public School Srinagar, on Friday organised a World Environment Day programme to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices among students.

In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said the programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers and officials of JK LCMA.

The event featured awareness sessions, environmental presentations, poster-making activities and a plantation drive aimed at sensitising young minds about the importance of environmental conservation and ecological sustainability.

“The programme was graced by Vice Chairman JK LCMA, Khurshid Ahmad Shah (JKAS), as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, he stressed the need for collective action to tackle environmental challenges such as pollution, climate change and loss of biodiversity,” the spokesperson said.

He said the Vice Chairman highlighted the crucial role of educational institutions in fostering environmental responsibility among the younger generation.

The spokesperson said Khurshid Ahmad Shah also spoke about the importance of conserving Kashmir’s fragile ecosystem, particularly its lakes, wetlands, forests and water resources and urged students to adopt environmentally responsible lifestyles and actively participate in conservation efforts.

“The Watershed Manager (Project Officer), JK LCMA, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, also spoke on the occasion,” he said.

According to the statement, students presented awareness messages focusing on environmental protection, waste management and preservation of natural resources. The activities reflected the creativity and commitment of students towards building a greener future.

The spokesperson added that the school management appreciated JK LCMA for organising the awareness programme and providing students an opportunity to engage with important environmental issues.

The event concluded with a pledge by students and participants to contribute towards environmental protection through responsible and sustainable practices in their daily lives.
