Srinagar, Jun 15: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Kashmir Range, Haseeb Ur Rehman (IPS), on Monday conducted an extensive tour of South Kashmir to review traffic preparedness and assess the overall traffic management arrangements for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026.

In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said that the DIG Traffic Kashmir was accompanied by SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, Liyaqat Ali, along with other senior officers of the Traffic Police and district police.

During the visit, the DIG held a series of meetings with senior officers of the Traffic Police, CRPF and local police at various Yatri Transit Camps, including Walnut Factory Levdora in Kulgam, Mir Bazar Food Depot and Nunwan Parking Area in Pahalgam, to review arrangements aimed at ensuring hassle-free vehicular movement during SANJY-2026.

The spokesperson said the DIG closely examined traffic congestion points and reviewed the movement of vehicles in high-density areas along the Yatra route. He issued directions to SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, concerned DySPs Traffic and other officers and officials to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize congestion during the annual pilgrimage.

The DIG emphasized the need for better inter-agency coordination, efficient deployment of manpower and proactive traffic management to ease vehicular pressure during the Yatra period. He stressed that the convenience and safety of pilgrims should remain a top priority and urged officers to adopt effective strategies to streamline traffic movement.

He further directed officials to take all necessary measures to enhance traffic discipline and ensure smooth movement for both pilgrims and the general public.

During the tour, the DIG also reviewed traffic arrangements at several key locations, including Toll Plaza Awantipora, Anantnag town, Navyug Tunnel, Yatri Transit Camp Mir Bazar, Walnut Factory Levdora, Qazigund, Pahalgam and other strategically important points along the Yatra route. (KNO)
