‘Travel time between Jammu & Srinagar reduced to under 5 hours’
Jammu, Jun 15: Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta on Monday visited the Tawi Riverfront project site and inspected development works underway, lauding all stakeholders involved and describing the project as a “landmark project” and a “historic gift to the region.”
Addressing a gathering at the site, Tamta said the project has definitively aided flood control and described it as a futuristic initiative with significant scope for further growth, noting that the riverfront is already emerging as an attraction for Tawi Aarti and other aquatic activities planned at the location.
The Union MoS shared his vision for further development of the region through elaborate road connectivity projects, stating that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is already developing roads and highways equipped with modern amenities in the toughest terrains, right up to the frontiers of India’s geography. Pointing to tangible results, he said that travel time between Jammu and Srinagar has been reduced to just under five hours owing to recent highway development.
Member of Parliament Jammu Lok Sabha Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha Sat Paul Sharma, MLA Vikram Randhawa, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation and CEO Jammu Smart City Limited Dr Devansh Yadav, and other senior officers were present on the occasion. Project Director Sunil Thusoo gave a detailed presentation on the project’s progress and future development plans.
