SHOPIAN, JUNE 22: As part of the month long national flagship campaign “Khet Bachao Abhiyan”, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shopian Monday organized a one day awareness programme at KKG, Keller, Shopian.

The programme, as per an official statement, witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 100 farmers, along with Krishi Udyamis from the Keller area.

The awareness programme was organized with the objective of promoting soil conservation, sustainable agricultural practices and creating awareness among farmers regarding the scientific management and efficient utilization of agricultural land and soil resources.

During the programme, experts highlighted the importance of maintaining soil health for enhancing productivity, ensuring environmental sustainability and securing long term agricultural growth.

Speaking on the occasion, Ravinder Kumar, Agri Chemist, who was the Chief Guest, emphasized the crucial role of soil as the foundation of agriculture and stressed the need for regular soil testing, balanced use of fertilizers and adoption of scientific farming practices.

He urged farmers to make optimum use of available agricultural resources and adopt modern technologies for improving crop productivity while preserving soil fertility.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Agriculture Officer Shopian, Mohd Rafiq highlighted the significance of the ongoing Khet Bachao Abhiyan and informed the participants that the month long campaign is being conducted across the district to promote awareness regarding soil conservation and sustainable agriculture.

He encouraged farmers to actively participate in departmental programmes and avail themselves of the various schemes and services being provided by the department for agricultural development.

The participants were also sensitized about soil health management, judicious use of fertilizers, crop planning and other scientific interventions aimed at increasing agricultural productivity while protecting natural resources.

Among others, the programme was attended by Dr. Zafar Afroz Badri, Head KVK Shopian; Mudasir Shafi, District Agriculture Officer, Nisar Ahmad, Subject matter specialist Horticulture, SDAO Keller, ADO Keller, representative from Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandary, Fishries, Bank, and other concerned officers and officials.
