DODA, AUGUST 04: A series of awareness programmes on the importance of breastfeeding were Tuesday organized in the health institutions across District Doda as part of the observance of World Breastfeeding Week 2026.
Dr. Shazia Choudhary Consultant Gynecologist delivered an informative and interactive lecture at Sub District Hospital Gandoh, highlighting the importance of early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, appropriate complementary feeding and the numerous health benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child. The session was attended by pregnant women, lactating mothers and other female participants, who were encouraged to adopt optimal infant and young child feeding practices.
Similar awareness programmes were also organized at CHC Thathri and Medical Block Ghat. The doctors and healthcare workers educated pregnant women, lactating mothers and community members about the importance of breastfeeding, maternal nutrition, timely immunization and the vital role of family support in ensuring successful breastfeeding. Participants were also sensitized to common myths and misconceptions related to breastfeeding and motivated to follow recommended breastfeeding practices for the healthy growth and development of children.
