2 killed, 3 injured in road accident in Bani’s Sarthal

Kathua, Sep 11: Two persons were killed and three others injured in a road accident in the Sarthal area of Bani tehsil in Kathua district on Friday.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the accident occurred in Sarthal when a vehicle carrying five persons was involved in an accident. Two occupants were killed, while three others sustained injuries.

The injured were shifted to Bani Hospital for treatment. Their condition was not immediately known.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State in the Department of Atomic Energy Jitendra Singh said he spoke to Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma after receiving a phone call from Bani MLA Dalip Singh Parihar, who informed him about the accident.

In a post on X, Singh said, “Just now spoke to DC Kathua, Sh Rajesh Sharma after receiving a phone call from MLA Sh Dalip Singh Parihar informing about a road accident at Sarthal.”

He said that of the five passengers travelling in the vehicle, three sustained injuries and were shifted to Bani Hospital, while two unfortunately lost their lives.

Singh said appropriate medical aid was being provided to the injured and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. He added that his office was in constant touch with the district administration.

The deceased and injured are likely residents of Bhaderwah in Doda district. Their identities and further details are awaited.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated necessary proceedings. (KNO)
