Directs officers to expedite NFSA verification, strengthen e-KYC, intensify market inspections

POONCH, SEPTEMBER 14: Director Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), J&K Rajesh Kumar Shavan Monday chaired a comprehensive review meeting here in the Conference Hall, Dak Bungalow, to review the functioning of the Department and implementation of the schemes and services in this border district.

Assistant Director Mills Rehana; Assistant Director T&S, Rohit and Assistant Director, FCS&CA Khalil A. Banday, beisdes Tehsil Supply Officers (TSOs), storekeepers and other departmental staff attended the meeting. Banday gave a detailed presentation on the department’s functioning, progress achieved under various parameters and key issues requiring attention.

The Director took stock of the status of e-KYC of ration card holders and LPG subscribers, stock and supply position of foodgrains and implementation of various targeted schemes.  He directed the TSOs to expedite verification of beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) to delete ineligible entries and ensure rightful targeting.

Emphasising the protection of consumer rights, the Director directed stressed regular inspections in coordination with the District Administration to check weighment, domestic LPG cylinders, calibration checks at petrol pumps, quality and price checking of essential commodities. He pushed for strict action against unfair trade practices and violations of prescribed norms.

Speaking to the media later, the Director said that routine samples of foodgrains are lifted for quality testing as part of the department’s regular quality-control mechanism. He said the exercise is aimed at ensuring that foodgrains supplied to consumers conform to the prescribed quality standards.
