DODA, OCTOBER 1: Under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner and under the overall supervision of the District Social Welfare Officer, the Social Welfare Department (SWD) Doda Thursday celebrated the International Day of Older Persons 2026 at the District Headquarters and across all tehsils of the district. A series of activities dedicated to the welfare, dignity and well-being of senior citizens were held.

The programme was organised to recognise the valuable contributions of elderly persons to society and to promote awareness about their rights, health and social well-being.

As part of the celebrations, the Department distributed shawls among senior citizens and organised recreational activities including carrom and chess. Free medical check-ups were also conducted for elderly persons, while free medicines were provided to those requiring medical assistance.

The programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation of more than 500 senior citizens across four tehsils of the district. The celebrations provided an opportunity to senior citizens to interact, participate in recreational activities and avail themselves of basic healthcare services.

The Department also appreciated the participation and support of all officials, healthcare personnel and other stakeholders who contributed to making the International Day of Older Persons 2026 a meaningful occasion for senior citizens across the District.
