Set to ease traffic woes
Budgam, Oct 17: The long-awaited Beerwah Main Bridge over Nallah Sukhnag on the Magam–Beerwah Road is ready for inauguration, offering hope of relief to commuters affected by recurring traffic disruptions following the closure of the existing bridge.
The new bridge is expected to improve connectivity through Beerwah town, ease congestion and facilitate smoother movement of traffic, including emergency services.
According to project details, the bridge has been constructed by the Public Works Department (R&B), Beerwah Division, under NABARD at an estimated cost of ₹7.9965 crore.
Sources said that after final testing, the bridge is likely to be inaugurated next week by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Meanwhile, reconstruction of the footbridge in Chadoora, damaged in the devastating 2014 floods, is underway. Officials said the work is expected to be completed within the next two months, with the bridge likely to be opened to the public in December.
Work on the Chadoora Main Bridge over Nallah Doodganga is also progressing. MLA Chadoora Ali Mohammad Dar recently inspected both bridges during a day-long tour of the constituency and reviewed the progress with officials.
The completion of the Beerwah bridge and ongoing work on the two Chadoora bridges are expected to improve connectivity and address long-pending infrastructure demands in the area—(KNO)
