‘Ops aimed at preventing misuse of chemicals, explosives for public safety’

Srinagar, Nov 20: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have launched an extensive security and compliance drive across multiple districts, focusing on sensitive installations, commercial establishments, and public safety measures, officials said on Thursday.

Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the initiative, launched following the recent Delhi blast and the recovery of arms linked to the “white collar” terror module, seeks to enhance security, enforce regulatory compliance, and ensure proper use of public and private infrastructure.

In Anantnag district, officials conducted a thorough inspection of lockers belonging to doctors and medical staff at the government medical college. “The exercise ensures accountability in hospital operations and verifies that critical areas are properly secured,” an official said.

The inspections, carried out in coordination with the hospital administration, also aim to check for misuse of any restricted items or access points.

A similar operation was conducted in Bandipora district in north Kashmir, where police and civil administration teams inspected medical and administrative facilities to enforce transparency.

Meanwhile, security personnel were deployed at strategic locations along highways, including the Srinagar-Jammu route in Pulwama and the Qazigund gateway, to monitor vehicle movement and maintain public order.

In Shopian, police intensified inspections of shops and establishments dealing with chemicals, fertilisers, explosives, hardware, and automobile workshops.

Shop owners were instructed to maintain detailed records of customers, including identification details, quantities purchased, and intended use of materials.

The installation of functional CCTV cameras was advised to enhance traceability and monitoring.

A police official said that these measures are crucial to prevent any misuse of regulated substances and to maintain a safe environment for residents.

Kulgam district witnessed extensive verification drives across LPG agencies and commercial cylinder outlets.

Inspecting officers scrutinised stock registers, distribution records, and transport logs to ensure adherence to safety protocols. Dealers were directed to verify all consumers before sale and maintain proper documentation.

Police officials stated that any violation of regulatory norms would invite strict legal action.

Alongside these drives, Jammu and Kashmir police continued raids at various locations in the valley to curb crime and anti-national activities.

The officials said that these operations are part of a sustained effort to safeguard public safety, improve monitoring of sensitive commodities, and uphold regulatory compliance across the region. (KNO)
