150 vehicles from Pahalgam, Baltal routes participate in dry run on NH-44

Srinagar, Jun 30: Ahead of the departure of the first batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims from Jammu towards Kashmir on Thursday, the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police has announced traffic restrictions on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for Wednesday.

According to a traffic advisory, available with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), no movement of heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) will be allowed from Qazigund towards Jammu and from Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar after 7:00 PM on July 1.

However, light motor vehicles (LMVs) will be permitted to ply up to 11:00 PM from Nagrota (Jammu) towards Srinagar and from Qazigund towards Jammu. Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly.

Traffic officials also advised passengers and LMV operators to undertake travel on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway during daytime and avoid night travel due to the possibility of shooting stones, landslides and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

J&K POLICE CONDUCT DRY RUN OF THE AMARNATH YATRA CONVOY

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday conducted a dry run of the Amarnath Yatra convoy on NH-44 to assess security arrangements and inter-agency coordination. Around 150 escorted vehicles participated in the exercise. One convoy moved from the Pahalgam base camp to Banihal before returning to Pahalgam, while another travelled from the Baltal base camp to Banihal, where it concluded its journey.

The exercise was aimed at testing convoy movement, coordination among security agencies and preparedness to ensure the smooth and safe passage of pilgrims during the annual Yatra. (KNO)
