Srinagar, Nov 22: Drung, a tourist destination in Gulmarg, is all set to reopen for visitors on Sunday (tomorrow) after being closed for several months following security concerns.

The closures across multiple key tourist sites, including Drung were primarily due to heightened security threats following a major terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025, which resulted in the loss of 26 lives and severely impacted tourism.

The authorities in response had ordered closure of around 48 tourist spots in Kashmir as precautionary measures to ensure visitor safety.

The reopening of Drung in Tangmarg has been achieved after positive security reports from the civil and police administration.

Officials confirmed that the tourist spot is all set to welcome visitors again, especially with the upcoming winter tourism season, which is a peak time for the region.

Meanwhile, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Gulmarg,, Farooq Ahmad Shah expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and the dedicated Police and civil administration for reopening the Drung tourist destination in Gulmarg.

“This reopening marks a significant step towards strengthening the tourism landscape in the region,” said MLA Farooq Ahmad Shah.

He expressed hope that other picturesque spots like Gogaldara, Shranz Fall and Botapathri will soon also be accessible to visitors, providing vital opportunities for local employment and economic growth.

He said the government of Jammu & Kashmir’s commitment to the revival of tourism is evident, with ongoing efforts to realize the vision of Greater Gulmarg.

The MLA assured the public that every proposal for tourism development is being personally followed up and emphasized the collective effort to pave the way for a vibrant and prosperous Gulmarg, promising a welcoming environment for tourists and locals alike—(KNO)
