Srinagar, Nov 22: The green cricket turf of Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium came alive on Saturday as the 3rd Edition of the CRPF Cricket Cup 2025 kicked-off with a dazzling inaugural ceremony, marking the return of one of Srinagar’s most anticipated youth sporting events.

The tournament was declared open by Inspector General (IG) CRPF Srinagar Sector, Pawan Kumar Sharma, in presence of senior officers, dignitaries and scores of young cricketers from across the Valley.

In his address, IG Sharma said the event reflects the CRPF’s ongoing efforts to connect with Kashmir’s youth through sports. “Kashmir has immense cricketing potential. Through this platform, we aim to strengthen peace, harmony and trust with the younger generation,” he said.

He added every possible measure has been taken to ensure peaceful and secure conduct of the event.

Notably, the CRPF Cup, which began in 2023, has fast become a flagship initiative blending sports with social outreach. This year saw a record 123 team registrations, of which 16 were shortlisted through a transparent draw.

Moreover, the tournament, held in collaboration with the J&K Cricket Association, University of Kashmir and DPS Pantha Chowk, will see 31 matches played over a week across five venues.

Today, the opening clash saw MLA Gymkhana Budgam defeat Batwara Sports Club, with Imtiyaz Lefty bagging Player of the Match for his all-round show. In another fixture, the Real Sultans Summerbugh triumphed over Shahzaib Cricket Club, with Amir Sofi shining with the bat—(KNO)
