Srinagar, Oct 04 : Srinagar Traffic Police has intensified its crackdown on errant Smart City bus drivers, issuing nearly 500 challans over the last three months for repeated traffic violations.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Srinagar, Aijaz Ahmad, speaking at a free medical camp organised for bus drivers in collaboration with Paris Hospital, said authorities are consistently monitoring the conduct of Smart City bus drivers.
“Wherever violations are observed, action is taken without delay,” Ahmad said, adding that such medical initiatives would be extended to other areas in the future to ensure safer roads.
The camp was aimed at promoting road safety through health awareness, providing eye check-ups, diabetes screening, and general health consultations, with a special focus on elderly drivers vulnerable to vision problems that could contribute to road accidents.
In his address, the SSP issued a public advisory against rising online fraud, urging citizens to use only official platforms such as the government’s Periwan app and to avoid falling prey to suspicious links.
“Our efforts are twofold – improving driver health to reduce accidents, and taking strict action against traffic violations,” he said. “Public safety remains our top priority.”—(KNO)
