113 drug peddlers arrested, 88 FIRs registered over the past few months
KULGAM, JANUARY 08: The monthly meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee was Thursday held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, to review measures for curbing substance abuse and narcotic trafficking in the district.
The meeting, as per an official statement, was attended by SSP Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary; ADC Kulgam, Viqar Ahmed Giri; ACR, Riyaz Ahmad Shah; CEO, Tehsildars, and other members of the NCORD Committee.
During the meeting, the DC reviewed the implementation of decisions taken in previous NCORD meetings and assessed the actions initiated by enforcement agencies to combat the drug menace.
It was informed that 113 drug peddlers have been arrested and 88 FIRs registered over the past few months.
The DC also reviewed the activities carried out under the second phase of the IEC (Information, Education and Communication) Campaign aimed at strengthening awareness and community participation in the fight against drug abuse.
The DC was informed that the district has achieved 100% installation of CCTV cameras under the NCORD initiative. Additionally, 88 inspections were conducted across pharmacies during the month of December, resulting in four medical shops being disallowed/suspended for violations related to maintenance of sale and purchase records.
With regard to the Nasha Mukt Gram Panchayat initiative, it was informed that 9 new Gram Panchayats have been declared Nasha Mukt.
The DC directed all stakeholders to launch a continue second phase of the IEC campaign to further raise awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse and strengthen community participation in prevention efforts.
He emphasized close inter-departmental coordination to ensure effective eradication of the drug menace from the district.
While reviewing the status of cancellation of driving licenses involved in NDPS and bovine smuggling cases, the DC directed the concerned authorities to expedite the cancellation of such driving licenses and ensure suspension of Registration Certificates (RCs) of all vehicles involved in these illegal activities.
