ANANTNAG, OCTOBER 08:  The Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), J&K in collaboration with M/S National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) Thursday, organised a Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) programme for 100 street food vendors/Food Business Operators (FBOs) at town Hall Anantnag.

During the training programme, the participating FBOs, as per an official statement, were sensitised about food safety requirements, personal hygiene, safe food handling practices, prevention of food contamination, repeated use of cooking oil, use of synthetic food colours, use of news paper in food handling and the importance of maintaining hygienic conditions while preparing and serving food to consumers.

On the occasion, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, Anantnag, Sheikh Zameer, appraised the participants regarding need for maintaining consistency with different regulatory provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The participants were also apprised of their responsibilities under the food safety regulations and encouraged to adopt safe and hygienic practices as part of their routine food business operations.

Moreover, during the training, hygiene kits and FoSTaC certificates were distributed among the participating FBOs.

The FDA informed that the training programme will continue on October 9 and 10, 2026 also, during which 200 more Street Food Vendors will be imparted FoSTaC training at Town Hall Anantnag and Kokernag.

The initiative aims to enhance capacity building and skill development among street food vendors to ensure the availability of safe, hygienic, and quality food for the general public.
