BUDGAM, OCTOBER 10: Commissioner Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Vikramjit Singh Friday inaugurated a three days Buyer-Seller Meet at Budgam to promote traditional handicrafts and facilitate market linkages for local artisans and producers.

The Buyer-Seller meet is being organised by Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO) and is sponsored by Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, under National Handicraft Development Programme (NHDP) as part of on-going efforts to support and revitalize Jammu and Kashmir’s rich handicraft heritage.

Managing Director, JKTPO, Sudershan Kumar; Director NIFT, General Manager JKTPO, AD Handicrafts, DCH and other senior officers of the district were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner Secretary highlighted that the Buyer-Seller Meet will serve as a key platform for local artisans to showcase their unique craftsmanship and build sustainable commercial relationships with buyers, thereby contributing to economic empowerment of the region’s artisan community. He added that the event will facilitate interactions between artisans and buyers, ensuring economic up-liftment for the artisan community and promotion of Jammu and Kashmir’s rich art and culture.

Around 50 artisans from both regions participated in the event, showcasing a diverse range of Handmade GI-tagged products like Pashmina, Kani shawls, Sozni embroidery, Paper Mache, Chain Stitch, Basohli paintings, Crewelwork, and more. The event successfully attracted 40 national buying houses operating across various international markets. Participating visitors had a unique opportunity to interact directly with the artisans and explore high-quality, handcrafted products celebrated for their distinctiveness and cultural heritage.

The event will witness impressive business deals along with a high level of engagement among participants leading to meaningful interactions and productive business discussions. The overwhelming response to the event underscores the event’s relevance and effectiveness in fostering connections among industry stakeholders.

In addition, the event is projected to generate an impressive number of business leads, further cementing its status as a high-impact platform for networking, lead generation, fostering business opportunities and strengthening the textile sector.
