Jammu, Oct 10: The extraordinary presence of mind and alertness of Station Master Vijay Kumar, posted at Bhangala station in Jammu division of Northern Railway, cannot be praised enough. He saved an NMG freight train from an accident.

“According to the incident report, Station Master Vijay Kumar was on night duty on October 10, 2025. While on duty, at around 3:25 am, as an empty NMG freight train was passing through Bhangala station, the Station Master noticed smoke and sparks coming from the wheel of the 15th coach of the engine,” a statement issued said.

Acting promptly, the Station Master signaled the train manager of the freight train with a red signal.

Meanwhile, the freight train was stopped after crossing the advance signal at kilometer 81/2 between Bhangala and Mukerian. With the help of the gateman posted at LC Gate No. 120, the carriage was checked. The technical problem was rectified and the spark was extinguished before the freight train was allowed to depart.

Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, commended the Station Master’s presence of mind and bravery and announced that he would be honored.

This incident demonstrates the vigilance and dedication of Indian Railways employees—(KNO)
